A thorough recruitment procedure is operated at Heathfield, based on equal opportunities, DBS screening and suitability for the position required.
For all new staff an Induction Programme is started within the first week of employment and must be completed within 3 months.
It is the Manager's and Deputy Managers responsibility to ensure the skill mix of staff is appropriate for the needs of the service users.
Depending on occupancy and dependency levels of the service users there will be no less than 3 staff on in the mornings, 2 in the afternoon and 2 overnight. This is performed using the Residential Forums model for calculating staffing needs within the framework of Standard 27 which is approved by the National Care Standards Commission.
Domestic and catering staff are employed in sufficient numbers to ensure the home can maintain a high standard of cleanliness and nutritional input.
All Staff are trained on the appropriate and accredited courses for their respective Job Descriptions. These include:
  • Moving & Handling
  • Health & Safety
  • Food Hygiene
  • Medication Administration
  • Infection Control
  • First Aid
  • NVQ in Cleaning
  • Any other courses relevant to the organisation
